Comment-a-holic

Hello, my name is Jessica and I'm a comment-a-holic
Crowd says?? "Hi Jessica"

Alright, alright... All joking aside, you all know that I love to comment! It's time consuming, but I love reading other blogs and letting people know that I am! The only way to let people know you truly are reading is to comment right? Right! So I'm going to give you a few helpful tips that I've learned in my few short months of blogging!

1. Get rid of those crazy robot investigator thingies! (Do they have a real name? Who cares!) Rachelle over at What The Teacher Wants has a great phenomenal how-to post on how to get rid of that pesky thing! (have you ever checked if you have it on yours? I bet 1/2 of you don't even realize it's on your blog!)

2. Respond to comments by email... Did you know you could do that?? I sadly didn't until a few weeks ago. Well here's the deal. As long as you have an email address in the Comment Notification Email box (dashboard-> settings -> comments-> all the way at the bottom) you will receive a notification when people comment on your blog. Then as long as they have an email attached to their account (dashboard-> edit profile (under your picture)-> email address (under identity)) they will receive an email back!(I'd say 98% of the time) I comment so much that I forget to check back on questions I ask to see if the blogger answered me. So this makes it easy right??

3. Lastly, create a handy dandy link to your blog that you can post after your comments by pasting this!!

<br />

Obviously with your info!

All in all we have our own ways, but boy oh boy does this make it easy :)

Since this post became so popular, so fast... I decided to make a linky! It's quick, it's easy! Just post about your blogger pet peeves (and maybe we will all realize we do some and change our ways)

You don't have to be a follower to join, but if you aren't following I'd love to have you!!

Please use the button above at the top of your post (copy and paste code into your post) and then make sure to come back and add your POST LINK (please do not post your main page address or it will be deleted) in the linky so that people will be sent directly to your pet peeves post!

Yep, those comment verification thingies have gotten even worse...numbers and letters.

And I love being able to respond by email :0)

I hate those robot detection thingies too!! I also had no idea they were a default setting. Thanks for sharing Rachelle's link. I just changed my settings to get rid of it AND found comments in my spam that were not spam at all. I also didn't know you could respond by e-mail.

Super helpful post- thanks!!

Thank you SO much for this post - I had no idea the comment verification thing (I think it's officially called 'captcha' or something?) was a setting you had to turn off. I assumed it was not on my blog because I never turned it on...little did I know it was a default...I've just disabled it. So glad, because those make me crazy!

I'm going to have to wait until it's not 12:30am to figure out the email comment thing, but I'll definitely come back to this post to get that set up, too! Thanks again!

I just went and checked to see if I had word verification on - and I did~!! I had NO idea. It's in the bin now. ( I hope I did it right ).

Hopefully this will make it more inviting for others to leave comments now.

Thank you for the tips. :o)

And now I'm going to try out a blog link in the comment form here: Hope this works too~!!

I love your comments! It reminds me maybe people really do actually read it! :)

Now those verifications have pictures! I can't tell you how many times I type in what I see and they tell me it's wrong-the robots are probably doing a better job deciphering it! Thanks for your tips!

That robot drives me nuts!! I turned mine off a few weeks ago too. I comment A LOT on blogs like you do to show the love and it would make it so much quicker to not deal with the robot. Plus I notice lately that the robot has gotten harder to read which takes up more time. Great post Jessica! You read my mind! :)

I turned off the robot thingy months ago and haven't noticed ANY spam comments as a result, so I really don't see the point in having it in the first place! I always think to myslef...if someone really took the time to create a robot that can read those images BETTER than I can (it usually take me about 3 tries!) then more power to them! We need to figure out who they are so we can get them a real job creating apps and such! I try to leave comments wherever I go too. It really makes me smile when I receive comments, so I try to remember to type a quick note even when I'm rushed!

Hello! I love your blog! I have to say that I've been a blog stalker for sometime and I finally decided to create my own yesterday. Wow! There is so much to learn...

I have always liked commenting on people's blogs, even though I didn't have one of my own. I agree that it is nice to hear/read people's comments about your posts and I enjoy letting others know that their work is being acknowledged.

Thanks for putting the "how to create a link" in the comment box! I am going to try it :) Hopefully it will work.

If you don't mind, check out my blog when you get a chance. I've just started, so there's not much yet. Definitely more to come...

Thanks again!

I had no idea about the emailing back to the comments. I check to see if the email or noreply is showing and if not I go and leave them a comment back as well as post it to my blog.

when I went to check this I found it by going to the mobile & email section. It wasn't in the other area or I just didn't see it.

I am still unsure how to do set it so that I can email my reply to a comment. I checked my settings and I don't see anything in the comments section where I can change it to email responses. Am I missing something?? :)
